Data with date format in dd/mm/yy - create new column for yyyy-mmmm for pivot table chart

The data download I receive daily has a column with date in the format of dd/mm/yy.  I have been requested to 1) Graph data based on yyyy-mmmm and 2) Calculate how many "months in service" using a production date that is also in the format of dd/mm/yy. 
I believe if I can create a new colunmn for "build month" and "receive month" in the yyyy-mmmm format, I can easily achieve both the pivot table/chart and monts in service calculation.
I have tried simply changing to the custom format of "mmmm-yyyy".  At this point, this DOES NOT get me the desired result I want.  When I use a pivot table with this custom format, the year and month must be separate to group them.

Run CHKDSK

• Go to the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Reboot your computer.

NOTE: You might receive an error message that states:

"Access denied as you do not have significant privileges. You have to invoke this utility in elevated mode."

If you receive the above error message, it means you are not logged into you computer as an Administrator. If that's the case, follow these steps to run the command prompt in elevated mode:

• Go to theStart button.
• Go to "All Programs > Accessories" and right click on "Command Prompt".
• Select "Run as Administrator".
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Reboot your computer.
