At each boot windows 7 wants to (re-)check my disk :-(
Since about a week I have the most annoying effect, that each time I boot Windows declares that it needs to check my disk for consistency.
And if I don't react in time to cancel the check it goes off and runs chkdsk. A few times I let the scan run (which
takes about an hour :-( ) and never were there any problems detected.
But at next boot I invariably get that msg.again!
I usually boot my laptop twice per day (in the morning in the office and in the evening at home) and I also always shut it down properly.
There never was any crash or message during shut down.
So why does Windows then always conclude that it needs to (re-)check
the disk?
Is there a way to find out, why this happens? Or what program or driver might cause that problem?
Michael

How do you fix it
Well, that's easy.
First click Start> Search Box> bring up a command prompt by typing in "CMD" and type " fsutil dirty query d: ".
This queries the drive, and more than likely it will tell you that it is dirty.
Next, type "CHKNTFS /X D:".
The X tells Windows
to NOT check that particular drive on the next reboot.
At this time, manually reboot your computer, it should not do a Chkdsk and take you directly to Windows.
Once Windows has fully loaded, bring up another CMD prompt and type and now you want to do a Chkdsk manually by typing "Chkdsk /f /r d:".
This should take you through 5 stages of the scan and will unset that dirty bit.
Finally, type "fsutil dirty query d:"
and Windows will confirm that the dirty bit is not set on that drive.
Good luck!
If you failed to fix it, another option is to call Microsoft and walk through the process with a technician. To do this, dial "1-800-936-5700". Explain the error that you received and the steps in the update process during which it was displayed. The technician will be able to walk through the steps from getting a new product key to finishing the installation.
