Black menu screen when starting Windows Vista Home Basic

I tried to intall Windows 7 on my new Inspiron 1545 lap top...but the upgrade CD was for a computer that has Windows Vista Home Premium (not Home Basic).
I talked with Tech Support and got Windows Vista reinstalled onto my computer, but I am still having
a couple problems:
1) When I turn on my computer, it goes to a black screen with white writing, asking me to choose which system to start up with -- Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows Vista...I have tried both and the menu continues to pop up each time I turn on my computer.
2) My C drive is almost completely full...I'm not quite sure if this is from reinstalling Vista a few times? I tried to do it my self a couple times before finally calling Tech Support (they are so difficult to get ahold of).


Please help if you can!!

Regarding the issue to reduce the size in C: You may try the following steps:
Since you have done a custom install Check whether you have windows.old folder.
If you don’t any data to be backed up, you may go ahead and delete this folder, which will save some space on your C:\.
